About The Child Educational Center

The Child Educational Center (CEC) is a non-profit organization that has provided exceptional early care and education with a special focus on outdoor learning for thousands of children and families in the Foothill communities of Los Angeles (L.A.) County since its inception in 1979. The CEC provides direct services at six sites, including full-day programs for children six weeks to five years old and before- and after-school care and summer enrichment programs for children K through 6th grade. More than 750 children and families benefit from their care each year. The organization also support thousands more children and educators throughout the region through services provided by its consulting and outreach division, Child Care Planning Associates (CCPA), which includes on-site training and support. CEC’s goal, both 28 years ago and today, is to facilitate the development of children and support all families, in whatever form they may take.

Its model Center in LaCanada has helped to permanently establish Outdoor Classroom practices for significant numbers of early care and education centers, many in low income areas of L.A., ultimately benefiting generations of children and families to come, and effectively linking the field of childhood development to broader improvements in public health and environmental stewardship.

The CEC has been continuously accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children since 1988, as well as the National AfterSchool Association, which includes passing a rigorous assessment of 144 standards that promote positive life outcomes.
